U.I.U (F),AUGUST MEETING: LAGOS TO MAKE CASE AGAINST COMPULSORY REGISTRATION/COLLECTION OF DUES/LEVIES BY HOME CONFERENCE
Ubakala Improvement Union (F) will hold her August meeting on 21st August, 2021 at Ubakala Town Hall, Apumiri. The meeting will be the first since the out break of covid in 2020
According to a release by the Secretary General of the union, Chief Uwaoma Nzenwa and made available to Ubscope News, the executive meeting will hold on the preceding day which is 20th August, 2021 at Elder Friday Ogbuehi's place.
On the agenda are items like Security, Ubakala history , electricity , Presentation of motorcycles to vigilante members, etc.
Although, not on the agenda, Lagos conference is expected to make a case against the compulsory registration and collection of monthly dues/levies by home meeting from members resident outside Ubakala.
Is important to note that many communities at home are insisting that those residing outside Ubakala whom they refer to as the 'abroadian' must register at home and pay their monthly dues/levies to the home meeting if they want to be accorded the right treatment in event of death, marriage and any other ceremony
According to the President, U.I.U Lagos Mr. Columba Nduaguibe, the issue is creating agitation among members in the communities in Lagos, who claimed that they were being subjected to double payment of dues as they can not be paying to lagos conference at the same time to home meeting. And that those residing in Lagos but do not identify with Lagos conference are given preferencial treatment just because they are registered at home and their dues are being paid by proxy.
He said Lagos conference would make a case for the whole process to be harmonized so that those attending meetings outside ubakala will not feel cheated.
"We are not saying that dues should not be remitted to the home meeting, but it should be done in a way that Conferences outside Ubakala would also be relevant and not to be seen as mere welfare outfit as they describe them to be. The conferences in diaspora can be made to be remitting an agreed amount of dues, together with the names of their active members to the home meetings on quarterly basis, as being done in my community, Mgbarakuma and in case of death, marriage or any other ceremony, it is the member's conference that should be consulted on his level of attendance and participation in the meetings"
"The home meeting is not to register or accept dues from anyone who is not a member of the union in his place of resident and in event of death, marriage and any other ceremony, he is not to be cleared because his people pay for him his dues at home. It is his conference that should decide on his case"
This is our position on this issue.
