BATTLE FOR UMULU VILLAGE LEADERSHIP WORSENS AS UGOCHUKWU UCHEGBU'S FACTION SUSPENDS 13 MEMBERS OF RIVAL FACTION
The Ugochukwu Uchegbu led faction of Umulu Village Union has announced the suspension of 13 members and loyalists of rival factional Union in Umulu, in what look like a case of vendetta.
The suspension was contained in a letter signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Union, Messrs Ugochukwu Uchegbu and Nchekwube Shedrack, which was addressed to the Chairman of OEAU Home conference and copied Chief Anthony Ukasanya, Charles Ekwueme, Chairman Ogamibe Union and Umuta village Union.
Those affected members included, lsreal Johnson, Ifeayi Onyeocha, ikechi Rufus, Uchechi Samboy Orji, kelechi Orji, Dominic Orji, Nnamdi Ezeribe, St.Patrick Ezeribe, Chief Luke Ezeribe, Obioma Mmeribe, Chidozie Adele, Chikwe Onyeocha and Okechukwu Shedrack.
The statement also barred them from constituing themselves into a parallel authority and from holding meetings in the name of Umulu Village either for burials or otherwise.
They equally called on Home Conference Chairman not to allow them to represent Umulu Village in Umuosu in this regard
It is important to state that there are two factions of Umulu Village Union. one led by lsreal Johnson and the other by Ugochukwu Uchegbu, each claiming to be the recognised leadership of Umulu village
Following the suspension of HRH by Abia State Government and the recognision accorded individuals and groups that are opposed to the suspended HRH by the powers that be in Umuosu, the Ugochukwu's faction have been parading themselves as the numero uno in Umulu village
Sources from Umulu however confided in Ubscope News that they have not been receiving the needed cooperation from Umulu citizens, home and abroad which might be the reason that prompted them to take this action.
They cited the case of Herbert Uchegbu, who came from abroad and whom they had approached for financial aid to roof the Umulu hall, but he turned them back and did the roofing of the hall without involving them. Also when Okechukwu Orji"s wife, late Mrs Chidinma Orji was buried on 3rd September, 2021, isreal Johnson and his group were present and in charge.
Another pointer that they do not enjoy the support of the generality of Umulu people was the meeting called by the Umulu youth on 8th September, 2021, in which large number of Umulu people, including the suspended members attended but Ugochukwu and his group stayed away. Going by those that attended and those that stayed away, it is needless to state where the pendlum swing.
Meanwhile those suspended had dismissed the purported suspension saying it was a desperate action from those seeking for relevance and recognision, when it is obvious that they are not enjoying the support and confidence of the people They also frowned at being labelled as insurgents, consequently, they are consulting their lawyers for libel lawsuit against Ugochukwu and his group.
