LAGURU: WAITING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW TRADITIONAL PRIME MINISTER


It is no longer news that HRH Eze (Dr)  Cyril Amaechi Ucheaga has been confirmed by the State Government as the Traditional Ruler of Laguru Autonomous Community and that he has been coronated as Enyi 11 of Laguru Community.

But the  question in the mouth of society watchers in Laguru after the coronation is who  assumes  the position of the Traditional Prime Minister of Laguru Autonomous Community.

Those who had expected HRH to announce and Install the new traditional prime minister during his coronation were disappointed as he only posthumously honoured  those who stood by him during his strunggle for the throne but died before victory was achieved

While HRH may be tactical about revealing  who  his traditional prime minister is going to be, Analysts are awash with speculations as to the right persons for the position.

Those who are close to the palace opined that following HRH's fall out  with Chief Paul Ukomadu, the village head of Orie village, who was supposedly being penciled for the position, Mr. Jonas Nweze  from Umuemere village in Umuorie zone is now seen to be favoured to occupy the position.

Though, the rumour is presently unconfirmed, society circles have been awash with the gistt.

A good number of those who have had one thing or the other with him are of the strong view that Jonas Nweze is eminently  qualified to function in the capacity as the  traditional prime minister. He is intelligent, reliable,  transparent, efficient and deligent in carrying out his assigned duties. Known for his strenght of character and unflinching loyalty, he stood by HRH during his struggle for the throne

But there is another school of thought which says that a more likely choice would be from Azuemume zone to compensate them for the loss of Ezeship contest to HRH. According to this group it would  not be appriopriate for HRH to appoint Jonas Nweze for the position as he is not from Azuemume,

They claimed that though, Mr. Jonas Nweze is very intelligent  and has all it takes to be the traditional prime minster, but HRH needed stronger reasons for his choice against the Azuemume Zone,who are aggrieved over the jettison  of the zonning arragement that would have produced one of them as the Enyi 11 of Laguru. They opined that if the traditional prime minister is appointed from Azuemume, it will endear their alignment with HRH which is better for everyone and win win for Laguru.

Another School of thought which seem  to disagree with the last thinking is of the opinion that zonning arrangement was jettison during the election of HRH Eze Ucheaga to avoid the enthroment of  a mediocre and men of questionable records and ability to the  exalted stool, so the issue of some people claiming that they were cheated or zoned out of the race can not hold water in this regard.

 They further stated that Laguru community needs some one who is dedication, reliable, transparent, credible, efficient at work as her traditional prime minister, someone, whom HRH can work with peacefully without conflict of interest and"if HRH feels that Mr. Jonas Nweze  is the right person, he should go ahead and appoint him as the new Traditional Prime Minuster of Laguru Community. There are other important positions like Palace Secretary or PG of the Union that are still available for Azuemume Zone"
