CELEBRATING HRH EZE IBEZIM'S ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARRY ON THE THRONE

Today would have marked the first year anniverdary of HRH Eze Simeon Ibezim on the throne, but for the interruption created by unforeseeable circumstances beyond anyone's control. How ever with wisdom and God's intervention, he will come out of it shinning more brightly.

Even if there is no celebration, we bring to remembrance one of his enviable and land mark achievement before he became the traditional ruler of Umuosu

UMUOSU OKATA CRISIS RESOLVED

Okata Umuosu crisis was the  longest crisis in the recorded history of Umuosu community.  It lingered for over two decades, defiling all solutions. The crisis led to the rest of Umuosu taken Umuokwuru and Umuamadi villages to court and the later in act of retaliation totally severed all relations with the rest of Umuosu. Consequently, when the  traditional ruler of Umuosu HRH Eze I. j Agoha died they boycotted his burial ceremony.

The warring paries agreed to sheath their swords after a peace move was brokered by Dr S.I Ibezim, who just relocated back to Umuosu after several years of sojourning  in Anambra State.

The new peace deal has the following:

A) That the Okata belongs to no village but  Umuosu community

B) That the proceeds from the Okata would be shared in the following ratio; Umuosu Community--80%. The four  villages that share boudaries with the Okata--20%

The position was at variance with the demands of Umuokwuru and Umuamadi villages, whose position had always been that since they are the owner of Okata the 20 % derivation shall be accorded to them only.

HOW WE RESOLVED THE OKATA CRISIS----- Dr S .I Ibezim

When asked how he was able to successfully resolve the Okata farm land crisis, a feat many had failed to accomplish in the past, Dr S.I. ibezim mentioned that it was God that guided and gave him the wisdom he used.

According to him "it was God that guided me to resolve the Okata crisis. It took so much for it to get resolved because the parties concerned had very different positions on how to resolve the crisis and none wanted to shift ground.  At a stage, I had to involve the chairmen and Presidents General of other communities and their traditiooal rulers plus the Clegy men who sacrificed all their time on that faithful Wednesday to be with us at Umuime Hall. Even at that, we could not make headway as each party held to their positions and refused to shift ground.

At this stage, Representatives from Umuosu villages at the meeting were told to leave the hall to allow for a focused deliberations.

Information from all documents I have been able to gathered in the course of trying to resolve the crisis were put forward for deliberations. In the final analysts it was resolved that the Okata belongs to no village but Umuosu and the proceeds gained from the land should be shared in the following ratio:

80% for the entire Umuosu community and 5% each four the four villages that share boundaries with the Okata. This is because if anything bad were to come out from the Okata, it is these villages that share boundaries with the Okata that would be affected directly

When this was communicated to the parties concerned at Umuime Hall, there were no objections or dis discerning voices. But when the villages were  asked to formalize this resolution to enable the cases in court to be withdrawn, the Traditional Prime Minster, who is from Umulu, the Apex village in Umuosu told his village Chairman not to sign the resolution because they ( Umulu) are not benefitting inspite of their position as the 'Opara,' of the communities and that for them to sign they must be given what is due to an 'Opara'

I later held meeting with the youth of the village and we came to an agreement that when any other income generating asset that belongs to the entire community is sold, the proceeds would be shared as follows; 5% to the village where the asset is domiciled and the rest to Umuosu community

With this the Chairman of Umulu in company of  the youth leader, kelechi

Orji and Joel came to my office to sign the agreement. This was followed by the chairman of Umuta village the following day.

The signed resolution was taken to court for the withdrawal of the case in court but Umuosu lawyer was indisposed, so it was adjourned to another day.

On the new date, the Traditional Prime Minster and Chief Luke Ezeribe came and oposed the withdrawal of the case, prompting the judge to adjourn the case to another date to allow the parties concerned to go and reconcile and come back with a resolution of peaceful settlement.

On the new date, the Traditional Prime Minster and Chief Ezeribe were still standing on their position. This did not go down well with the woman Magistrate, who after tongue lashing them dismissed the case
