FROM INSURANCE SALESMAN TO POLITICAL JUGGERNAUT




Super High Chief Anthony Ukasanya aka total is a  perfect example of the popular quote that says a man who is deligent at his work would stand before Kings and not mean men

This is because what he could not achieve going by his humble background, he attained through commitment and deligence at work.

Early in life, he was an insurance sales man, trotting  the streets of Lagos canversing  for  clients and  by dint of hard work and determination he made his tables with Kings and the mighties


Today, he is a successful business man, company CEO and a political juggernaut, whose name and posture command influence in political circles

For over three decades, he has  been in the spotlight as a political leader in Abia State.  One  cannot mention Abia politics today without his name. Indeed the history of Abia State can never be complete without the chronicle of his contributions to the development  of his party PDP in particular and Abia State in general.


He was the pioneer Chairman of People's Democratic Party, Abia State. He was also a member of Board of Trustees (BoT) PDP Abia State. He is a major PDP stakeholder in Abia State and one of those consulted before important decisions are taken by the state government


The Governor of Abia state alluded to his political sagacity during his 77th birthday when he described him as an astute politcal tactician and experienced party administrator whose wealth of experience in the party politics has remained a powerful resource material for successive leaders in Abia State.

He noted with firm view that the political deftness and depth of Chief Anthony Ukasanya's experience has remained a powerful tool for the stabilization of the political environment in the state

And for his contributions to the growth and development of the state and as a loyal PDP member,  he was decorated with the tittle 'Enyi Abia' by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the Executive Governor of Abia State on 27th August, 2021..












 Ihis political expedition in  the state, Super High Chief Ukasanya has provided opportunity for many Ubakalas' upward political mobilty. He ensured that Ubakala land gets exalted positions in the polity of the state.

It is said that he played a prominent role in the emergence of Senator Orji Uzor kalu as Governor Abia State in 1999. And in recognision of that gesture  he was  later made commissioner of works in Abia State

According to analysts, the appointment was adjudged as belittling to the person of his calibre and magnitude. Therefore, he turned the offer down to give  chance for another Ubakala citizen 


He retained his position as PDP Chairman Abia state and equally recommended an Ubakala indigene to take up the position of commissioner. it was in this vain that  Surv. Nnamdi Umesi  emerged as  commisioner for Land and Survey, Abia State and the first Ubakala to hold the post of a commissioner in Abia State.

When Surv. Umesi was dropped another Ubakala, Mr Ucheagbu Santiago was recommended to replace him. Mr Ucheagbu Santiago, was made commissioner for youth and sports.


Even when in another party APC, Super High Chief Anthony Ukasanya played a major role in  the emergence of Hon Chijioke Nwachukwu of APGA as member representing Umuahia South State Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly in 2015.

It was his effort and others that led the military President Ibrahim Babangida to site Apumiri Ubakala as the headquarters of Umuahia South L G


He is not only a successful company CEO and politician, he is also a community leader and a philantropist of high repute. He is a former President General, Ubakala Improvement Union (F) and piloted effectively the Affairs of the union for the period he remained as the PG. During this period, he was able to record some land mark achievements, such as electrification of many communities in Ubakala and  reticulation of pipe borne water to  communities in the clan


In the 80s and 90s, Super High Chief Anthony Ukasanya was a bundle of blessing to Ubakala Clan and the less privileged in the society. He touched many hearts and minds especially in the area of employment/ empowerment of the youths both in the Federal and state civil service.. He assisted many of them into the Nigerian Army, Police, SSS and the Civil defense Corps among many.


While he was at Chiyoda Chemical Engineering Company of Japan, he employed over 3000 workers from Ubakala/Umuahia


Also his companies, 'Mechanical Systems Ltd, Port Harcourt, KALA Food Industry Ltd and Idea Sustainable Concept Ltd, Ubakala Umuahia South have given employments to many Ubakala/ Umuahia indigines.

In recognision of his philantropic nature, he has been given so many chieftaincy tittles by communities both in and outside Ubakala clan..


The chieftaincy tittle 'Miri Na Ezoro Oha  1 of Ubakala' given to him by the late Ubah of Ubakala during this period is an  attestation of his open handedness and desire to make everyone he comes in contact with a better person




The qualities of this man are numerious. In a nutshell, however Super High Chief Anthony Ukasanya (total) is an achiever, a visionary leader, a leader with conviction, commitment, resolve and passion above all he is an icon of the Abia State politics

Doubtless his place in the political annals of Abia State is already etched in stone. It is left for the younger generation to emulate his qualities of courage, perserverance and loyalty.
