AMARACHUKWU NWAORGU- UBAKALA BORN OLYMPIC MEDALIST SPEAKS TO UBSCOPENEWS

 


Amarachukwu Nwaorgu Marshal, an Olympic bronze medalist is unarguably the greatest athelete from Ubakala. For more than a decade he has been a household name in the Karate/Kunfu event in which he has won several medals both in local and international competitions. Amarachukwu, in a chat with UbscopeNews, recounts the glories, awards and the fact his two sons are also Athletes

UbscopeNews:.                                            Can we meet you sir?


Amarachukwu:                                          I am Chief Amarachkwu Nwaorgu, a traditional Chief, Village head and Olympic medalist. I hail from Okwaike village in Abam Ubakala. I was born in Abam. I attended Abam Primary School, Federal Government College Bacita, Kwara State and National Sports Institue in Lagos. I was honoured with the tittle Ike Oha 1 of Abam by HRM Eze Thomas Nkuku. I am equally the village head of Ikwaike village. I have been a sports man all my life 

Ubscope News:                                        You have represented Abia State and Nigeria in many local and international competitions. Would you mind giving us a brief of these?


Amarachukwu.                                        My first National competition was National Sports Festival, held in Bauchi 2000 and since then I have been to many national and international competitions which include All African Games, World Championship and Olympics.

Ubscope News: .                                        What medals have you won for Abia State and Nigerian in these competitions?

Amarachkwu; .                                        Lots of medals. In National Sports Festival, I  won a total of five gold medals and one silver for Abia State. I won the gold medals in Bauchi 2000, Abuja 2003, Kaduna 2008, Port Harcourt 2010 and Lagos 2012 editions of the Sports festival. The Silver medal was at the one held in Ogun State, popularly known as Gateway Games. In the international scene, I won bronze in the all African Games held in Egypt and also bronze in the Olympics held in Sydney.

Ubscope News: .                                      Which of these medals can you say you cherished most?

Amarachkwu: .                                        Olympics. Although it was a bronze medal, it remains the most cherished

UbscopeNews:.                                        Looking back now which competition can you say was the toughest you ever had?


Amarachukwu: .                                    Kaduna 2009. Although I won gold medal, but it was very tough. I had won silver medal in the previous edition held in Abeokuta. After the competition, I vowed never to be second best again but all my opponents in Kaduna 2009 were like you would end up a loser again. I thank God that I over came all and won gold.

UbscopeNews:.                                        What are you doing presently?

Amarachukwu: .                                        I am a coach with Abia State sports Council.

UbscopeNews: .                                        Are  you married?

Amarachukwu:.                                        Yes. I am married to Lolo Chinatu and we are blessed with four children. Three boys and one girl.

UbscopeNews:.                                          Would  you encourage your children if they want to take after you?


Amarachukwu:.                                        It is up to them to decide what is best for them, I cann't decide for them. Presently, my two sons are sportsmen. My first son is a staff of Abia State Sports Council and has won laurels for the state. My third son is also an athlete representing Abia State. 

UbscopeNews:.                                       What is your favourite drink?

Amarachukwu:.                                         I don't do alchol, I am alchol free 

UbscopeNews: .                                         What is your favorite food?

Amarachukwu: .                                        I love fufu and Okazi soup with akpurakpu elile and mangala fish

UbscopeNews: .                                          And your favourite form of exercise?

Amarachukwu:.                                         I work out everyday, I exercise everyday
