REMEMBERING CHIEF MATTHEW OHAMUO, THE LATE IME II OF UMUIME

It has been more than 9 years since the passing of Chief Mathew Ohamuo, the late village head of Umuime, in Umuosu Ubakala Autonomous Community.

To many who knew him, his name will continually ring a bell in their hearts. He was a man of honour and a patriot, whose invaluable contributions to his community remain laudable. He was a great man full of intelligence,  courageous  with a disciplined mind. He was always firm in his actions that those around him were moulded in the same way.

He was a leader of men, a go getter, an exceptional community leader, a distinguished village head, who gave unbaised and examplary leadership to his people, a consummate strategist, a becon of hope, a source of inspiration and a guiding light to his people.

He was a great man of unquestionable intergrity, who walked the walk and talked the talk. He was selfless and progressive in all his undertakings in life.

Known for his commitment to community service and activities. When he was in Lagos, he was an active member of Ubakala Improvement Union, OEAU  and  Umuime Family Meeting. Indded the history of Umuime Family Meeting Lagos would not be complete without the contributions of Chief Mathew Ohamuo, who worked assiduously with other Umuime notable Elders to bring growth and advancement to the union

His unflinching dedication, commitment and tireless efforts to the affairs of the union, made him a truly extra ordinary individual. He had always made himself  available whenever, wherever and however the needs arose.

On his retirement from Exam. Success, he came back home to contribute his quota to his father land

When Chief Oluta Ogbuehi, the village head of Umuime, died,  Ndi Umuime had considered Chief Ohamuo's commitment to community service and activies, in addition to his leadership traits and other positive attributes, and elected him as the Ime II to succed late Chief Oluta Ogbuehi. He was  from the same kindred as his predecessor, . This alone would have disqualified him from the race but his people over looked it and made him their village head .

As village head, he distinguished himself as a very honest and hard working village head, reliable, self  disciplined and morally upright. His decisions and judgment were always fair and consistent. He was an asset to Umuime people and will forever be remembere as one who gave unbaised and examplary leadership to Umuime people.

He was one of a kind and even those who didn't like him could not deny his extra ordinary qualities. He was not without fault as no human being is without fault but he stood head and shoulders above most of his contemporaries.

Not only did he render selfless service to his community, he was a devout Christian, whose every action was guided by fear of God and reverence for Him. He was of the Catholic faith.

He was also a dutiful husband and father.
